Special Services Unit (SSU)
Division: Patrol Operations
The Special Services Unit is the department’s tactical team, which exists to peacefully resolve tactical situations with minimal impact on the community.
The Special Services Unit has been called upon to handle incidents such as high-risk search warrants and arrests, barricaded subjects, hostage situations, crowd control, area searches, and VIP protection. The unit is considered a “part-time” team, wherein each team member has other duties within the department. SSU is on-call twenty-four-hours a day and has the ability to respond to a critical incident within one hour. The Special Services Unit officers are trained in the areas of crisis negotiation, snipercraft, and tactical intervention.
