The Property and Evidence Technician for Commerce City Police Department is responsible for maintaining the integrity and control of all property and evidence in the custody of the Police Department in order to secure and maintain the chain of custody of evidence for court. This also entails storage of all items and maintenance of the database. Additional responsibilities include arranging for the disposal of property, through approved methods, when no rightful owner can be found.
In addition, the property and evidence technician assists CSIs by assembling evidence for delivery to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation; assists officers with booking property; sends counterfeit money to the Secret Service; purges drugs; disposes of ammunition and fireworks; and more.
