Divisions & Duties
The Police Department is comprised of three divisions (also called Operations): Patrol Operations, Support Operations, and Administration and Information Operations. The divisions are comprised of multiple units that work together to reach the city vision of a quality community for a lifetime.

Administration & Information Operations
Responsible for providing administrative support for the police department.
Animal Control Agents (ACA)
In the 1950s, the position of animal control officer was first created, handling all animal complaints for the city.
Crime Analyst
Commerce City Police Department Crime Analyst uses geographical profiling to identify crime patterns.
Crime Scene Investigators (CSI)
CSIs process crime scenes, evidence identification, documentation, collection and preservation.
Community Service Officers (CSO)
Community Service Officers are civilian personnel who assist sworn officers by performing non-hazardous law enforcement duties.
Emergency Management
Responsible for planning, training, equipment, interagency cooperation and coordination, and public education to deal with significant natural or man-made disasters.
Explorer Program
The opportunity for young people to get an inside look into a career in law enforcement.
Investigations/Detectives
The support operations division is responsible for the investigation of all felony crimes and complex incidents.
K-9 Unit
K-9 teams are highly skilled, certified in narcotics detection, building searches, article searches, area searches, tracking, aggression control, agility, and obedience.
Methamphetamine Lab Response Vehicle
The Commerce City Methamphetamine Lab Response Vehicle is a custom-built vehicle designed to respond to, and support law enforcement operations at, a criminal methamphetamine lab location.
North Metro Task Force (NMTF)
The NMTF targets street level drug violators and investigate major drug distribution groups identified through street level investigations.
Patrol Operations
As the largest and most visible division in the department, patrol operations provides for emergency and non-emergency response for calls for service.
Professional Standards
The Professional Standards Unit ensures professionalism within the department.
Property and Evidence
The Property and Evidence Technician is responsible for maintaining the integrity and control of all property and evidence in the custody of the Police Department in order to secure and maintain the chain of custody of evidence for court.
Records
The Records Division maintains and preserves all documentation produced by the officers.
Street Crime Attack Team (SCAT)
It is the mission of the SCAT unit to address criminal activity and statistical trends.
School Resource Officers (SRO)
The School Resource Officer (SRO) team is dedicated to building partnerships with the youth and schools in our community.
