Community Service Officers (CSO)
Division: Patrol Operations
Community Service Officers are civilian personnel who assist sworn officers by performing non-hazardous law enforcement duties. Field assignments vary, but they are primarily duties that do not require a sworn police officer, including:
- Burglary reports
- Stolen vehicles
- Criminal Mischief
- VIN inspections
- Traffic control
- Non-violent crowd control
- Transporting victims, witnesses and equipment
- Parking enforcement
- Deployment of the speed control trailer
- Act as animal control agents when animal control agents are not available.
In 2006 the CSOs responded to 7.9% of total calls for service, handled 61.7% of abandoned vehicle complaints, handled 38.2% of animal calls, and initiated 11% of total on site actions for the department (graffiti, stolen or abandon vehicles, and criminal mischief).
